Q.                What do I need to get started with jewellery making?

R.                   You can easily get started with jewellery making by purchasing some essentials and experimenting. However, if you need a little help or pointing in the right direction, then we recommend checking out some books, the internet or attending a class.

If you would like to be shown how to get started, we have a comprehensive schedule of workshops from beginner to advanced level. We specialise in contemporary jewellery making to compliment today's styles and fashion. There are evening, daytime and weekend workshops covering Beginner level (getting started); Intermediate (the next steps), where you learn to stretch your skills and refine your technique, and advanced where you hone and perfect techniques. Q.               What tools do I need to get started?

R.                  We’d recommend the following basic tools to get started:

  • Side cutters
  • Chain nose pliers (sometimes known as snipe nose pliers)
  • Round nose pliers

Q.               What do I need to make strung necklaces and bracelets?

R.                  You will need the following:-

  • Nylon coated stainless steel wire – often called Acculon, Beadalon, etc
  • Crimp beads - small hollow metal bead approx. 2mm diameter
  • Necklace ends also known as callottes or clamshells or Crimp covers
  • Clasp
  • a selection of beads
  • Chain nosed pliers

Q.                What do I need to make earrings?

R.                   You will need the following:-

  • Earring hook
  • Head pins
  • Beads
  • Round nosed pliers

Workshops and courses FAQS

 

  1. What do I need to bring with me for your classes?
  2. Just yourself!  We supply all the tools and the materials for our classes so you just have to turn up!

 

 

Q.                What time do your classes start at?

R.                   The start times of our classes vary:

  • Afternoon classes start at 1.30 p.m.
  • Evening classes start at 6.00 p.m.
  • Weekend classes – Morning or after workshops start at 10.00 a.m. or 2.00 p.m.
  • Weekend Classes – Full day start at 10.30 p.m. and finish any time from 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Q.                Do I need any special skills to do your classes?

R.                  No!  The good news is that for most of our classes we accept people at beginner level.  Only advanced courses will typically require some level of experience.  Some wirework classes will require minimum strength in the hands. If in doubt please give us a call to discuss.

Q.                What age do you need to be to attend your classes?

R.                   There are no limits on age for our classes but would recommend that for children they be at least eight years of age.  We would ask that you notify us if you intend to book a child onto one of our courses or if you have any special needs that we can help you with.

Q.                Do you run classes for Children?

R.                   Yes.  We run sessions for Children.  We have upcoming programmes for children and are available to run special sessions for children’s parties but need plenty of advance notice.  Give us a call or email us for further information.


Advance payment

Advance payment is non-refundable if you are unable to attend the workshop.

Eight Week Course

You have committed to a eight week course. If you have paid a deposit only, you are still liable for the full amount if you are unable attend any of the workshops. However, in certain circumstances you may hold one lesson in lieu, to be taken at another time convenient to yourself and Beads and Bling with prior arrangement and at the discretion of proprietors.

One off workshops
