 DAVINA LYNCH - MILLINERY 

We are delighted to welcome Davina Lynch, one of Irelands top milliners to our school of millinery!  Davina trained in London at Central St. Martins, then onto Kensington & Chelsea College working with famous milliners such as Noel Stewart and Ian Bennett.  An established and successful milliner, Davina has won several prestigious awards in the world of millinery and fashion and is keen to pass on her craft.  She joins us for a series of millinery courses including our straw, felt, bias cut and introduction to hat making.  She will also be teaching millinery flowers & trimmings covering a variety of trimmings including feather and silk flowers and taking over our feather fascinator course where she will teac the making of fascinators and the dyeing of feathers!  Not to be missed!  Check out the courses Davina will be running for us on this page or click here!

    

MIRJAM KEUNE - BEADWORK

Introducing our new beadwork & stitchwork teacher - Mirjam Keune!  As part of our commitment to bring you the best in marketplace - we are delighted to announce that Mirjam will be working with us from January teaching a wide range of amazing new courses for us along with some of the basics in beadwork and stitchwork!  Mirjam is a well known bead artist and her work is amazing! Click here for an outline of her courses!

 LARAGH MCMONAGLE - PMC - www.bylaragh.com

Laragh is a well known Irish PMC Artist who has trained in the USA and UK.  Laragh will be running beginner, intermediate and advanced workshops with us and is highly recommend for anyone starting to work with or wanting to improve their precious metal clay skills.  Laragh is a designer and maker of one-off pieces of jewellery which incorporates gemstones, silver and natural objects such as shells and pearls.  A love of colour and a fascination with the innate beauty of gemstones are the inspiration behind Laragh's work. 

Laragh has trained in London, the USA and the mid-Cornwall School of Jewellery and was recently awarded a prize at the International London Jewellery show for her piece entitled 'Something Blooming'. Let Laragh's skill and passion for creating beautiful, one-off pieces of jewellery inspire you to create and learn a fantastic skill to hone your jewellery making craft! Laragh will be teaching basic, intermediate and advanced PMC. 

CORMAC CUFFE - COMBING PMC WITH PRECIOUS METALS - www.irishjewellerycourses.com

Cormac is a well known Irish Craft Jeweller and an award winner for design and craftmanship.  Cormac is a precious metal worker and PMC artist and is best known for his fusion of the two.  He will be running classes suitable for students at various levels from beginner to the more experienced and will be running two workshops for us:

Workshop 1: Recycle your old Hallmarked Jewellery - on this workshop you get the opportunity to recycle your old gold or silver jewellery - making a pendant, brooch or earrings in PMC and incorporating your old recycled gold/silver into the design!

Workshop 2: Precious Metal Clay and Sterling Silver - Precious metal clay and sterling silver combined.  This class is suitable for beginners and more experienced silver/PMC workers.  Cormac offers the opportunity to combine sterling silver with PMC to make amazing pieces - old fashioned meal working with a modern twist!

We are delighted to welcome Jean Condron of 'Hats by Jean' fame to our millinery school!  Jean is renowned for making tailored and structured hats and fascinators and has featured on programmes such as Xpose!  Jean will be teaching you how to design and make your own fascinator or tailor your fascinators to your clients requirements on her 'Hats by Jean' Course.  Jean will also be teaching a 'Bridal Fascinator' course bringing a selection of her own designs to inspire you and teaching you various techniques to make your unique structured fascinators! www.hatsbyjean.com - more info check here!

 BRONAGH CURRAN - JEWELLERY MAKING

Bronagh is a familar face in Beads and Bling and has been building her experience as a craft maker and teacher since she joined our team.  She now takes over our beginner jewellery making courses including our introductory courses and our ring and wire work courses! She has been trained to the highest standard by our master instructor and three of our other trainers!

 MILLINERY WORKSHOPS

 New! Evening Six Week Fascinator Course!

Enjoy a number of our fascinator courses over six weeks!  We will be working with Sinamay, Feather, Crinoline, Merry Widow and other popular millinery materials to create fabulous fascinators over this six week course.  Places are limited to ensure personal attention to all students.  We will be both hand and machine sewing on this course learning all the basics you need to master the art of fascinators.  For more info and dates click here!

Learn to make beautiful couture sinamay hats on our six week intensive course.  Get your couture millinery off to a great start learning all the techniques including blocking, stiffening, cutting, wiring, joining and finishing your hats.  Please note that as this is an intensive course there will be homework each week to ensure completion of the project within the six weeks. MASTER FASCINATOR WITH GILLIAN HUGHES!

We run Master Fascinator courses with one of Irelands leading milliner - Gillian Hughes!  Learn to make stunning fascinators on this two day workshop with Gillian Hughes.  Gillian helps you to advance your basic/intermediate level fascinator skills learning to work with sewing machines, dyeing pieces to meet customer requirements, embellishing your designs and tailoring to meet your customer needs.  This course is highly recommended and has had great feedback from our customers to date.  You will make and take home three amazing fascinators on this course!  Check out our class examples page for some pictures from previous classes! INTRODUCTION TO HAT MAKING 

Learn how to create a variety of hats with little or no previous experience. Learn how to use various millinery tools such as blocks, techniques such as stitching, blocking, pattern making, and lining and how to make a variety of hats.

You will create and keep hats using our milliner techniques. Learn step-by-step how to design your hats, discover what tools and materials are required and the techniques for finishing. We provide a wide selection of quality milliner materials for this course and light refreshements are also included in the cost.  This workshop is run in our workshop in Kilternan. Learn how to create a beautiful fine fur felt hat with little or no previous experience. Learn how to use various millinery tools such as blocks, techniques such as constructing, stitching, blocking, wiring, sizing, stiffening and how to finish a felt hat - as each material reacts differently to the blocking and construction techniques this is a new skill for you to learn.  Make beautiful felt hats all winter long! For more Information click here!

NEW! BIAS CUT SINAMAY HAT WITH STRAW CROWN!

Learn how to create a beautiful bias cut sinamay hat with straw crown - you can use normal or window sinamay for this technique with little or no previous experience. Learn how to use various millinery tools such as blocks, techniques such as constructing, stitching, blocking, wiring, sizing, stiffening and how to finish a felt hat - as each material reacts differently to the blocking and construction techniques this is a new skill for you to learn.  This brim is not blocked in the traditional fashion and we teach you the only way to block window sinamay by joining 'sheet' sinamay into bias strips (prior to blocking), to create a deep sculptured brim that is usually difficult to achieve in this fabric.  We will also block a smooth parasisal straw crown and then finish with sinamay trimmings! Learn how to create a classic tailored or parasisal straw hat - with little or no previous experience. Suitable for beginners and wire workers with some experience. Tiara Level II

Learn how to make beautiful bespoke tiaras with wire, crystals, components and beads. This class teaches you how to make a tiara band, make tree tiaras and make component tiaras. Ring Making' workshop – Level One

Learn how to make stunning rings with wire, crystals and beads. Each ring is individual and you can be as delicate or as Bling as you choose! The workshop begins at 10.00 a.m. and finishes at 3.00 p.m. with a 45 minute lunch break.

During the workshop you will make several different style rings, using silver coated wire, buttons and beads.  We teach all the fundamentals for making wire rings and this course is an excellent introduction to ring making. While we state that 'no experience is necessary' for this workshop, some of the designs need strength in your hands in order to be able to twist and wrap the wire

INTERMEDIATE CLASSES

 

Ring Making Workshop – Level 2

Learn how to make stunning rings with wire, crystals and beads. Each dress ring is individual and you can be as delicate or as bling as you choose!!  The workshop begins at 10.30 a.m. and finishes at 3.30 p.m. with an hour lunch break.

Ring styles:

Learn to make a charm ring, manoeuvre wire to make a Celtic style wire wrap ring, how to wire wrap stones with no holes, wire sculpture ring, charm ring and make two styles of beaded rings (all different to the styles taught on the level one workshop)

During the workshop you will make several different style rings, using silver coated wire, crystals and beads. While we state that 'no experience is necessary' for this workshop we would recommend that you attend the level 1 workshop first. Also some of the designs need strength in your hands in order to be able to twist and wrap the wire. Please take this into consideration and feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

EVENING WORKSHOP SCHEDULE – 3 hour Workshops

Beads and Bling specialise in Beading Parties for ages 5 and up!  We bring the beading supplies, the instructors and the fun!  We can customise our bead party to any event or occasion!  A Beads and Bling beading party takes away the stress of entertainment for your party! You just turn up with the party goers and we will do the rest - ensuring your party is a success!   Its great fun and educational! You will learn to create beautiful jewellery using a wide variety of beads.
