 Welcome to Irelands largest Professional Millinery School!

We offer a large suite of courses.  Our programmes are suitable for a broad range of students from very beginners to experienced milliners looking to expand their skills.   Some of our workshops focus on technical skills while others are designed as a fun introduction to millinery (that’s not to say you don’t learn some ‘serious’ skills!).   Browse through our course outlines below and pick a programme suitable for your level.

 Funky Fascinators:

This is our most basic of millinery workshops and a good introduction to working with materials such as veiling, crinoline and pre-made bases.  This is a recommended workshop if you have never worked with millinery products before or if you want to have a fun day out while learning a new skill:

What will I learn?

1.       We teach you how to make birdcage veils, sew brims using crinoline, shred crinoline to make fun shapes, use premade brims and shapes to make fascinators, cover fascinator bases with fabric and demonstrate approximately 8 fascinators on the day.  You can expect to make 4 or 5 fascinators depending on your pace.  You don't need any experience for this workshop and these fascinators are quick to make with very little effort!

2.       Step by step techniques on the sewing, shaping, styling and assembling of fascinators

3.       Techniques to professionally finish a stylish, funky fascinator!

4.       We provide notes at the end of this workshop so you can repeat the experience at home!

How much will it cost?

This one day workshop costs just €75 – materials are extra and these are charged on a per usage basis only so you control the amount you spend.  The value of the fascinators you will leave with is usually higher than the cost of the course and your materials!  As with all our workshops we are more concerned with imparting the skill, rather than styling to match a particular outfit but you are welcome to bring an outfit along to match to if you wish.  We will not be able to dye items to match an outfit on this workshop.

Sinamay Fascinators

This is one of our beginner suites of millinery workshops and is described as a skill based workshop working with Sinamay (the most commonly used millinery fabric).   This is a recommended workshop if you have never worked with millinery products before or if you want to have a fun day out while learning a new skill:

What will I learn?

1.       We teach you how cut, sew, block and shape sinamay to make a variety of brims, trims, flowers and bias bindings. You can expect to make 1 or 2 fascinators depending on your pace. 

2.       Step by step techniques on the sewing, shaping, styling and assembling of fascinators

3.       Techniques to professionally finish a sinamay fascinators

4.       We provide notes at the end of this workshop so you can repeat the experience at home!

How much will it cost?

This one day workshop costs just €130 – your sinamay is included in the cost of this course but any additional trimmings you might require  are extra and these are charged on a per usage basis only so you control the amount you spend.  The value of the fascinators you will leave with is usually higher than the cost of the course and your materials!  As with all our workshops we are more concerned with imparting the skill, rather than styling to match a particular outfit but you are welcome to bring an outfit along to match to if you wish.  We will not be able to dye items to match an outfit on this workshop.

 Feather Fascinators

This is one of our beginner suites of millinery workshops and a good introduction to working with feathers (a must for all milliners!).  This is a recommended workshop if you have never worked with millinery products before or if you want to have a fun day out while learning a new skill:

1.       We teach you how to cut, shape, dye & trim feathers for use in fascinators or hats

Fillie Fascinators

Going to the races or a wedding?  Want to be the belle of the ball or the fillie at the races with a fascinator you made yourself?  Why spend hundreds on a fascinator to match an outfit when we can teach you to make your own 'best dressed' fascinator! This is one of our beginner suites of millinery workshops and is specifically designed to match fascinators to outfits.  So if you have an event coming up and you’d like to make your own fascinator to match the outfit this is the workshop for you! Be at the races after this workshop!  This is a recommended workshop if you have never worked with millinery products before or if you want to have a fun day out while learning a new skill and leaving with a fascinator exactly matching your outfit!

What will I learn?

1.       We teach you how to create a fabulous fascinator to match an outfit

2.       You can expect to make 1 or 2 fascinators depending on your pace. 

3.       Step by step techniques on the sewing, shaping, styling and assembling of fascinators

4.       Techniques to professionally finish a stylish fascinator!

How much will it cost?

This one day workshop costs just € – materials are extra and these are charged on a per usage basis only so you control the amount you spend. The value of the fascinators you will leave with is usually higher than the cost of the course and your materials!  On this workshop we concentrate on styling to match a particular outfit and you will be required to bring an outfit along to match your fascinator to.  We would recommend you bring along pictures of any type of fascinator you would like to make.

Beginner Six Week Evening Fascinator Programme

What a great way to spend your Monday evenings!  We run a six week programme incorporating elements of our sinamay, feather, funky and fillie programme on Monday nights.  The great thing about this workshop is that as it’s over a continuous period, we coach you over that period and there is continuous feedback. 

What will I learn?

Introduction to Hat Making (Sinamay) (Daytime and Six Week Evening Programme)

This is one of our beginner suite of millinery workshops and a good introduction to working with sinamay to create a beautiful couture hat. This is a recommended workshop if you have never worked with millinery products before, have done some millinery before and are ready for hat making or if you want to learn the basics of hat making from start to finish – this is a three day workshop (also available as a six week evening programme):

What will I learn?

1.       We teach you how to block and create a sinamay hat

2.       Step by step techniques on the blocking, cutting, stiffening, sewing, shaping, styling and assembling of your hat

3.       Techniques to professionally trim and finish a beautiful couture hat!

4.       We provide notes at the end of this workshop so you can repeat the experience at home!

How much will it cost?

This three day workshop costs just €300 – materials are extra and these are charged on a per usage basis only so you control the amount you spend.     Felt Hat Making

Not to be confused with felt making – this is the construction of a couture felt hat using peachbloom crowns and capelines and making your hat in the age old millinery tradition. This millinery workshop is a good introduction to working with felt crowns and capelines to create a beautiful couture hat.  This is a recommended workshop if you have never worked with millinery products before, have done some millinery before and are ready for hat making or if you want to learn the basics of hat making from start to finish – this is a three day workshop):

What will I learn?

1.       We teach you how to block and create a felt peachbloom hat

2.       Step by step techniques on the blocking, cutting, stiffening, sewing, shaping, styling and assembling of your hat

3.       Techniques to professionally trim and finish a beautiful couture hat!

 Pillboxes

This workshop is a good introduction to working with both blocking net and buckram to create a beautiful and age old style of couture hat.  This is a recommended workshop if you have never worked with millinery products before, have done some millinery before and are ready for new techniques covered on this workshop or if you want to learn the basics of pillbox hat making from starts to finish – this is a three day workshop):

What will I learn?

1.       We teach you how to block and create 2 pillboxes using two different techniques – this is a great workshop to do even if you have done hat making with us as we teach you two skills not covered on any other workshop.

2.       Step by step techniques on the blocking, cutting, stiffening, sewing, shaping, styling and assembling of your hat – you can use silk, velvet or straw to make your pillbox

3.       Techniques to professionally trim and finish a beautiful couture hat!

4.       We provide notes at the end of this workshop so you can repeat the experience at home!

 Felt Fascinators (New!)

This new workshop teaches you how to block wool felt onto small wooden fascinator blocks, enabling you to make beautiful felt fascinators that are right on trend! This is a recommended workshop if you have never worked with millinery products before or if you want to have a fun day out while learning a new skill:

What will I learn?

1.       We teach you how block wool felt onto wooden blocks by wet blocking and steam blocking

2.       Step by step techniques to block, cut, sew, and shape felt to make a fascinator. You can expect to make 1 or 2 fascinators depending on your pace.

  Bridal Fascinators

Very ‘in-vogue’ the new trend is for brides to wear fascinators rather than veils.  This is workshop covers some of the more popular designs we’ve been asked to make for brides. This is a recommended workshop if you have never worked with millinery products before, want to expand on your range of fascinators or if you want to have a fun day out while learning a new skill (or indeed make your fascinator for your own wedding!):

What will I learn?

1.       We teach you how cut, sew and shape fabrics to make a variety of finishes for bridal fascinators. You can expect to make 1 or 2 fascinators depending on your pace. 

2.       Step by step techniques on the sewing, shaping, styling and assembling of fascinators

3.       Techniques to professionally finish a bridal fascinator

Vintage Vogue Hats

Taking the timeless elegance of vogue and the current trend of vintage, this workshop is a good introduction to working with pattern hats (and what better ones to work with than vintage vogue!). This is a recommended workshop if you have done some millinery before but have never covered making hats from patterns as covered on this workshop or if you want to learn the basics of pattern hat making from starts to finish as a beginner – this is a two day workshop:

What will I learn?

1.       We teach you how to create 3 vintage vogue hats using various techniques – this is a great workshop to do even if you have done hat making with us as we teach you skills not covered on any other workshop.

2.       Step by step techniques on the blocking, cutting, stiffening, sewing, shaping, styling and assembling of your hat – you can use flat felt and silk on this workshop

3.       Techniques to professionally trim and finish a beautiful vintage couture hat!

4.       We provide notes at the end of this workshop so you can repeat the experience at home!

Hat Block Making (New!)

Want to learn to make your own blocks?  Know the style of fascinator you want to make and can’t get a block to fit or don’t want to spend a fortune getting a wooden one made? Then this is the workshop for you.   This is a recommended workshop if you have done some millinery before and want to learn to make your own blocks to complement your millinery skills.  This is a one day workshop:

What will I learn?

1.       We teach you how to cut your own mini top hat block and a pillbox block on this course but learning the skills that will enable you to go home and make your own blocks in whatever shape you require! 

2.       Step by step techniques on the designing, cutting, shaping, sanding and creating your own blocks

3.       Techniques that will enable you to start making your own blocks at home!

Up cycling Hats (New!)

Have an old hat lurking in the wardrobe?  A 1980’s fashion faux pas that needs updating? Bring it along to "Up cycling Hats" and create a whole new look.  You will be able to revamp your hat by reworking it to add trimmings and embellishments that will give it a new lease of life!  Learn new creative techniques to rework your style.  If you don’t have a hat – borrow one from your granny’s closet!

What will I learn?

1.       We teach you how up cycle your old hat reworking its style to current trends and fashions

2.       Step by step techniques on the redesigning, embellishing and re-trimming your hat 

3.       Techniques that will enable you to confidently update your other hats at home!

How much will it cost?

This half day workshop costs just €60 – materials are extra and these are charged on a per usage basis only so you control the amount you spend. Use of tools and light refreshments are included.

Millinery Flowers & Trimmings

Learn how to create a variety of millinery trimmings including flowers that you can use to complement your hat or fascinator making.  You will create a variety of millinery flowers using millinery techniques.  You use a variety of fabrics and techniques not used on any other of our workshops. 

What will I learn?

1.       We teach you step by step how to design and make your flowers and trimmings 

2.       Step by step techniques on the designing, cutting, shaping, and creating trimmings

3.       Techniques that will enable you to start making your own trimmings at home from fabrics such as organdie and silk!

4.       We provide notes at the end of this workshop so you can repeat the experience at home!

How much will it cost?

This two day workshop costs just €200 – materials are included. As with all our workshops we are more concerned with imparting the skill, and this workshop concentrates specifically on teaching you how to make millinery trimmings.

Felt Making Level 1 (New!)

Definitely one of the most common skills we get asked to teach to students interested in felt is how to make their own.  We are delighted to welcome Felt Expert Maureen from the Felt makers Guild of Ireland to teach this workshop for us.  On this level 1 programme Maureen teaches you the basics of felt making – bringing your fibres together to create beautiful fabric that you mould into shapes. 

What will I learn?

1.       We teach you the basics of felt making – showing you how to create felt from fibres, layering, washing and creating the felt and mixing colours to great effect

2.       Use this fabric to then create a bag and flower shapes

3.       This is a great programme for those interested in felt both from a millinery or jewellery making perspective!

4.       We provide notes at the end of this workshop so you can repeat the experience at home!

How much will it cost?

This one day workshop costs just €135 – materials are included. As with all our workshops we are more concerned with imparting the skill, and this workshop concentrates specifically on teaching you how to make felt from fibres.

Beaded Alice Bands

Be right on trend with these funky beaded Alice Bands.  Learn the secret to the star-styled hair bands in our course and make a variety of Alice Bands. No experience necessary - we teach you a variety of Alice band styles from simple fabric covered ones to more advanced beaded designs.  Never be without a funky hair band again!  

What will I learn?
1. This course concentrates on the skills behind making and finishing a variety of Alice band designs including designing, cutting, shaping, beading and professionally finishing your band

2. You will learn what tools and materials are required to make your Alice bands and we endeavor to cover four or five designs on the day

How much will it cost?
The beaded Alice band course costs just €85 and is based in our dedicated class studios at our premises in Wellington Quay, Dublin City Centre - price includes light refreshments.  Use of tools and equipment are also included. 
As with all our workshops we are more concerned with imparting the skill, and this workshop concentrates specifically on teaching you how to make a variety of beaded Alice bands.

Tiara Level 1

A great beginner tiara workshop – this course incorporates basic wire and millinery techniques to enable you to create two styles of tiara on the day.   Our morning tiara is a basic ‘tree’ style tiara and then our afternoon tiara is a beautiful metal fascinator.  Excellent opportunity to incorporate basic wire techniques into your millinery and jewellery making skills!

What will I learn?
1. This course concentrates on the skills behind making and finishing tiaras – this is a great technique to learn as it can be used on a variety of projects.  You will learn how to measure, twist, shape and embellish wire to make two styles of tiara.  

2. You will learn what tools and materials are required to make your tiaras and we endeavor to cover two designs on the day

How much will it cost?
The tiara level 1 course costs just €130 and gives you an allowance of €20 towards Swarovski crystal to use during the class (this is not refundable if you use less than €20 allowance).  All other materials are included and this course is based in our dedicated class studios at our premises in Wellington Quay, Dublin City Centre - price includes light refreshments. 
As with all our workshops we are more concerned with imparting the skill, and this workshop concentrates specifically on teaching you how to make two types of tiaras.

Wedding Hair Jewellery

Take your comb making skills to the next level!  Gillian Hughes teaches you some of her most popular bridal comb designs on this one day workshop.  Learn how to maximise your pieces using wire, beads and little bit of sparkle - we use Swarovski in this course!  This is a great course if you are interested in making your own wedding hair jewellery or adding it to your existing jewellery making or millinery skills.

What will I learn?
1. What tools and materials are required to make two different type of wedding hair jewellery designs – Gillian also imparts the knowledge and skill she has learnt in working with the bridal market

2. How to design, create and professionally finish your wedding hair jewellery

How much will it cost?
The wedding hair jewellery course with Gillian Hughes is just €120*** for our one day workshop based in our dedicated class studios at our premises in Wellington Quay, Dublin City Centre - price includes light refreshments.  Use of tools and equipment are also included. *** Materials are included in the cost of this course and a €20 voucher for Swarovski but if you require additional Swarovski these will have to be paid for and no refund is given if you do not use €20 worth of swarovski.

Combs & Clips

A great beginner clip and comb workshop – this course incorporates basic wire and millinery techniques to enable you to create a wide variety of combs and clips suitable for all occasions on the day.   Our morning commences with basic wiring techniques to get you warmed up making basic shapes to mount to combs or clips.   We then teach you how to either wire on or wire off a comb and show you our techniques that we use to make our famous riverdance combs (yes we make the combs and tiaras for riverdance!)  This workshop is an excellent opportunity to incorporate basic wire techniques into your millinery and jewellery making skills!

What will I learn?
1. This course concentrates on the skills behind making and finishing metal combs and clips – this is a great technique to learn as it can be used on a variety of projects.  You will learn how to measure, twist, shape and embellish wire to make a variety of comb and clip styles.

The combs and clips course costs just €120.  All materials are included and this course is based in our dedicated class studios at our premises in Wellington Quay, Dublin City Centre - price includes light refreshments.  As with all our workshops we are more concerned with imparting the skill, and this workshop concentrates specifically on teaching you how to make a variety of combs and clips.

Intermediate Fascinators

Daytime and Six-Week Evening Programme (New!)

Take your fascinator skills to the next level!  If you've completed our beginner courses, this 2 day course is the next step for you!  We use a variety of techniques and alternative materials on this programme to teach you more advanced fascinator making and some very 'couture' pieces.  Not to be missed - this one it taught by Netty!

What will I learn?
1. This course covers a number of different types fascinators designed by Netty including a lot of her ‘catwalk’ work and we aim to make two/three fascinators over the two days, depending on the speed the student works to (more if you are on the six week programme (one a week).

2. You will learn what tools and materials are required to make a variety of fascinators and how to work with blocks and stiffeners from a fascinator perspective

3. How to design, cut, create and professionally finish your fascinators

How much will it cost?
The intermediate fascinator course two day course costs just €250*.  The intermediate fascinator 6 week programme costs €350*based in our dedicated class studios at our premises in Wellington Quay, Dublin City Centre - price includes light refreshments.  Use of tools and equipment are also included. * Materials are extra but the cost of this is minimal as it is on a per usage basis so you determine your spend. As with all our workshops we are more concerned with imparting the skill, and this workshop concentrates specifically on teaching you how to make a variety of combs and clips.

Felt Making Level 2 – Hats (New!)

Our level 2 programmes on felt, Maureen Cromer teaches you how to make hats with handmade felt.  Maureen shows you how to mix your colours, felt onto blocks and shapes and make your own felt masterpieces!  This programme is a lot of fun as it shows you the fabulous results that can be achieved when you make your own felt.  You must have completed our level 1 programme or be an experienced felt maker to take this course

What will I learn?

1.       We teach you the next level of felt making – showing you how to felt your handmade felt onto blocks and mix colours to great effect

2.       Use your felt to make a hat!

3.       This is a great programme for those interested in felt both from a millinery or felt making perspective!

How much will it cost?

This one day workshop costs just €150 – materials and use of blocks/tools and light refreshments are included. As with all our workshops we are more concerned with imparting the skill, and this workshop concentrates specifically on teaching you how to make felt hats from handmade felt.

Tiara Level 2

A great follow on workshop from our level one (but can be taken without level 1 if you have some good wirework skills) – this course incorporates different tiara making techniques.  We go more into the detail of consulting for the right type of tiara, how to make a tiara band from wire (we use premade ones on level 1), how to make a tiara off the band using wire twisting techniques which allows you to build your tiara to any side and style you want and also cover how to make a tiara using component pieces. Excellent opportunity to incorporate basic wire techniques into your millinery and jewellery making skills!

What will I learn?
1. This course concentrates on the skills behind making and finishing intermediate level tiaras – the techniques covered on this course can be used on a variety of projects.  You will learn how to consult for the right type of tiara and what head and face measurements to make to ensure right style and fit.  You will twist, shape and embellish wire to make two styles of tiara. 

2. You will learn what tools and materials are required to make your tiaras and we endeavor to cover two designs on the day and how to make your own bespoke tiara band from scratch.

How much will it cost?
The tiara level 2 course costs just €130 and gives you an allowance of €20 towards Swarovski crystal to use during the class (this is not refundable if you use less than €20 allowance).  All other materials are included and this course is based in our dedicated class studios at our premises in Wellington Quay, Dublin City Centre - price includes light refreshments.  As with all our workshops we are more concerned with imparting the skill, and this workshop concentrates specifically on teaching you how to make a variety of tiara types.

This course continues to get rave reviews.   By far one of the best next level fascinator courses in Europe!  Gillian is a talented and creative millinery designer and her creations are highly sought after.  

We run Fascinator courses with Gillian!  Learn to make stunning fascinators on this two day workshop with Gillian.  Gillian helps you to advance your basic/intermediate level fascinator skills learning to work with sewing machines, dyeing pieces to meet customer requirements, embellishing your designs and tailoring to meet your customer needs.  This course is highly recommended and has had great feedback from our customers to date.  You will make and take home three amazing fascinators on this course!  Check out our class examples page for some pictures from previous classes!
